Just a minor correction on the Peak Oil item:
Rubber/latex comes from trees, not petroleum.
There are however thousands of synthetic materials used in nearly all modern products and production methods, which do use petroleum and petroleum by-products.
Plastic and styrofoam alone should scare people greatly, they represent an ever-increasing dependence for those who don’t use gasoline or other inefficient uses. It’s really difficult these days to even find food to buy that hasn’t been wrapped in petroleum.
